The more modern terminology is intended to reflect the great responsibilities of the CNA, who works directly under the supervision of a registered nurse and works directly with patients to ensure quality healthcare. Duties include assisting patients with grooming, bathing and hygiene, monitoring vital signs, scheduling rehabilitation and assisting in that process, and a host of other duties. It is argued that the CNA job description is terribly inadequate to truly note what these important medical employees do in assisting patients.It is often the case that nurses and others in the healthcare field begin their careers as CNAs and move on from this position to become RNs, LVNs and any of a number of other medical positions. Even so, the role of the CNA should not be underestimated.
